  This session provides professional rescuers (those with a duty to respond) the skills needed to respond appropriately to respiratory and cardiac emergencies.  Participates will also learn the skills and knowledge needed to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest through the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).  A fee of $10 is charged for this session and will be collected upon completion of the session.  This session carries 0.5 CEUs for teachers.
This module is only open to school administrators and carries 10 SEMI credits and Orientation for School Leaders (OSL) credit.
The Mississippi Department of Education Office of Leadership and Development has partnered with the various regional service centers to bring the training opportunity “Classroom Instruction that Works” to Mississippi administrative educators. In this one-day workshop, participants will be instructed on the use of the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Literacy Skills (DIBELS) instrument to screen students, monitor progress, and guide instruction.  This session carries 0.6 CEU credits for teachers or 5.0 SEMI credits for career level administrators.
This new, one-day session is designed for teachers of kindergarten – first grade students.  A child’s performance on phonemic awareness skills is a key predictor of his/her future success as a reader.  Participants will discover what phonemic awareness is, as well as the difference between phonemic awareness and phonological awareness.  They will also learn about the continuum of phonemic awareness and play fun games associated with each skill on this continuum.  Participants will explore assessment options for phonemic awareness, as well as how to address individual needs.  This session carries 0.6 CEU credits for teachers or 5.0 SEMI credits for career level administrators. This new, one-day training will focus on strategies that will enable students to achieve a robust vocabulary.  Teachers of kindergarten – eighth grade students are encouraged to attend. The Mississippi Department of Education Office of Curriculum and Instruction, in collaboration with the Office of Special Education and Delta Area Association for Improvement of Schools, is pleased to announce the offering of the Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) training.  This will be an in-depth three-day training exploring the concepts of PBIS throughout the Response to Intervention (RtI) process.  The PBIS training will provide guidance to school districts on the following topics:  Universal Screening for Behavior, Classroom Behavior Management, Instructional Planning, Scientific Based Research (SBR) Interventions, Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA’s), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP’s), Progress Monitoring, Appropriate Decision Making, and Evaluation of Data. The Coaching to Facilitate Change Module demonstrates how to make connections between coaching as a strategy for developing reflective practitioners and support for creating a culture of sustainability.  Outcomes of this session include increased knowledge about the connection between effective change leadership and sustaining school improvement, increased understanding of how coaching strengthens purposeful communication, and increased understanding of coaching tools and strategies to strengthen reflective practice.  This module is only open to school administrators and carries 10 SEMI credits and Orientation for School Leaders (OSL) credit.

Leadership for School Change module focuses on four major outcomes associated with change.  These outcomes include an increased understanding of leadership and student achievement, increased awareness of the change theory, increased knowledge and use of tools for effectively leading change, and increased knowledge about research-based leadership responsibilities associated with leading change.  This module is only open to school administrators and carries 10 SEMI credits and Orientation for School Leaders (OSL) credit.
This one-day training provides an introduction to the newly revised MS Language Arts Framework 2006 for Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The training includes an overview of the organization of the MLAF, an explanation of the competencies and objectives for each grade level, examples of teaching strategies, and suggested assessments for the areas of reading, language arts, and writing. The MLAF training addresses what students should know and do in English, language arts, and reading classrooms.  This session carries 0.6 CEU credits for teachers and 5.0 SEMI credits for career level administrators. High quality assessment evidence is imperative to validly evaluate student performance in the newly re-designed Mississippi Alternate Assessment.  Alignment between the teacher (Rater 0) and the independent rater (Rater 1) significantly impacts student evaluation of the student's performance and judgments of teacher effectiveness.  High quality evidence produced by the student and effectively reported by the teacher (Rater 0) is the driving concept behind the Mississippi Alternate Assessment.  Enabling teachers to provide such evidence, utilizing efficient and effective methodologies while acknowledging the diversity of their student population is a key goal of this training.  This training will be conducted by two instructors that led the training for the Mississippi Department of Education during the 2008/2009 school year. This Institute offers intense interaction with school health educators who are committed to providing safe, healthy and orderly schools.  These individuals have been recognized as leaders in school health safety and they offer best practices, as well as the latest ideas and issues.  Days 1 & 2 will be for School Health Council Members and Day 3 will be for Administrators.  Please be sure to note which days you will be attending when you register. This two day module explores No Child Left Behind and the implications of the legislation and its reauthorization for leadership in schools.  The Introduction to Leadership module focuses on nine leadership skills.  The first part of the session will focus on:  No Child Left Behind, Leadership Styles, Professional Growth Plans, Understanding the Times in Which We Live, and Technological Resources for Instructional Leadership. Obtaining and succeeding in the jobs of today’s economy require an ever increasing breadth and depth of mathematical skills and concepts.  School leaders must know how to recognize effective instruction in numeracy and encourage numeracy instruction across the curriculum.  This module will help leaders close the gap in what they know and what they must know to provide numeracy leadership  This module is only open to school administrators and carries 10 SEMI credits and Orientation for School Leaders (OSL) credit. The Superintendents Academy provides opportunities for any MS educator to explore the most crucial leadership position in American education, the role of the superintendent.  Delta State University, Nissan and the Delta Area Association for Improvement of Schools designed the format to allow participants to engage in meaningful interaction with presenters, while also allowing time to reflect on their goals and develop strategies to achieve them.  Sessions are held over a 12-month period which includes one week on campus and five additional sessions spaced throughout the year. The address is 423 S. Line Street.  At the intersection of Hwy 51 and Hwy 8 go north 0.2 miles (This will be the second red light).  Turn right on Fairfield.  Go 0.6 miles and  turn left on Fourth Street.  Go one block and you will see the GLAD (Grenada Adult Education Center) building.  It is a former school.  Parking is on the street in front or at the side of the building.

From I-55 turn west onto Highway 22 (also known as West Peace Street).  Pass KFC, Bumpers, and G.A. Carmichael Clinic.  Make the first right (next to G.A.
